Team Liquid Alienware needed only three games. Their best-of-five against Relove Deep Cross Gaming in the MSI Play-In Knockouts ended 3-0 on June 29, and the final scoreboard leaves little room for argument about which side controlled the series.
The structural numbers tell most of the story. TLAW took 30 towers to DCG's four and secured all four Barons played, while DCG never reached the end of a game with more gold. The closest gap came in the second game, where DCG still finished more than 6,000 gold behind despite winning the dragon count 3-2. The opener was even more lopsided, with DCG ending it without a single tower.
Quid sets the tone
If one player defined the sweep, it was arguably Quid. The mid laner went 8/0/1 on Akali in the opener and 8/2/10 on Ryze in the second game, finishing the series with 19 kills against three deaths. Yeon supplied the heavy damage, posting 37,499 on Ziggs in game two, the highest total of anyone in the series. Behind them, CoreJJ racked up 50 assists across the three games, and Josedeodo closed things out with a deathless 7/0/3 on Shyvana in a 25:13 finale.
TLAW's draft also kept DCG guessing. Morgan played Ornn, Twisted Fate and Renekton in consecutive games, and the Twisted Fate pick in the top lane paid off with a 7/4/12 line and 24,047 damage.
Not enough from DCG
DCG were not without bright spots. Pop9 had a hand in every one of his team's kills in the opener and 88% of them in game two, and Feng's 5/3/9 Senna kept DCG within reach for longer than the other two games. HongSuo was consistently among DCG's top damage dealers. But the support role struggled for survival, with ShiauC dying 16 times over the series, and the final game, on a Camille support pick, was DCG's least competitive outing.
For TLAW, the sweep is a clean, low-risk result in a best-of-five format, played entirely from the blue side. The open question is whether a roster this comfortable in the mid lane and on the map can carry the same control into tougher opposition as MSI goes on.
