Beijing JDG Esports have beaten BILIBILI GAMING. JDG lost the first game of the best-of-three in Week 4 of the LPL on August 12, then won the next two to close out a 2–1 series against one of the league's marquee rosters.
The opener belonged to BLG, and above all to Knight. His Syndra finished 16/2/7 with a hand in 82% of his team's kills, while Viper's Ezreal led the game in damage. BLG took eight towers and four dragons to JDG's two and one. On the other side, HongQ had a night to forget on Viktor, dying ten times.
HongQ takes over
Whatever JDG changed between games worked. Game 2 lasted 26:26, the shortest of the series, and BLG managed only seven kills in it. JDG's bot lane was at the centre of almost everything: GALA's Xayah and Vampire's Rakan each took part in 93% of their team's kills, and JDG took seven towers to BLG's one.
The decider was the longest game of the three, but the scoreboard was still clear. HongQ, so quiet in the opener, went 12/3/9 on Aurora and led JDG in damage. JDG secured both barons and ten towers and finished almost 9,600 gold ahead. Vampire's Seraphine added 19 assists, arguably the quietest important line of the night.
A familiar engine stalls for BLG
For BLG, the story is how much their opening win leaned on one player. After his Game 1 masterclass, Knight went 2/2/2 on Akali and then died eight times on Ahri in the decider. Flandre had a hand in just 14% of BLG's kills in Game 2. Viper kept producing big damage numbers, topping the chart in Game 3 on Ziggs, but it wasn't enough to swing the result.
JDG leave with a series win built on a mid laner who seemingly shook off his opener and a bot lane that was everywhere. For BLG, the open question is simpler: what happens when Knight isn't the one carrying the game?
