Gen.G Esports are into the Worlds final. They swept Invictus Gaming 3-0 in the semifinals on November 7, eliminating IG and booking a place in the November 14 final against an opponent still to be decided.
It was GEN's second straight 3-0 in the playoffs after their quarterfinal sweep of LYON, and they remain unbeaten in series at this event. They had also beaten IG in a one-game Swiss match earlier in the tournament, so this was the second time the two sides met in Busan... well, at this Worlds, with the same winner.
Two games, no contest
The first two games were about as one-sided as the scoreboard can make them. GEN finished them with kill totals of 29-9 and 27-9, taking nine towers each time and every Baron. Canyon went 5/0/15 on Lee Sin in the second game, and Ruler had a hand in 85% of his team's kills on Ashe. IG's bottom lane struggled to keep up; Meiko ended that game 0/8/7 on Milio.
IG push the third, GEN close it
Game 3 was a different story. IG finished with more kills (18 to 16) and four dragons to GEN's two, and Rookie posted 11/2/5 on Locke with a hand in 89% of his team's kills. It was arguably IG's best showing of the series, but GEN still finished it after 40:14 with nine towers to five and the only Baron.
Ruler was the difference-maker on paper. His Yunara finished with 45,924 damage and 437 CS, both the highest of anyone in the game, while Chovy added 33,471 damage on Taliyah. When IG had the kills, GEN still had the bigger damage carries and the structures.
For IG, the run ends in the semifinals after a 3-1 quarterfinal win over TES had seemingly put them in form. They were the only team to beat GEN in a game count... no — they did not take a game here, and their exit comes against the same opponent that handed them their lone Swiss defeat.
GEN now wait to learn who they face on November 14. On this evidence, with one dropped game across their whole Worlds run, they arrive as the side everyone else has to solve.
