Gen.G Esports have won their LCK Playoffs series against Hanwha Life Esports. They lost the opener on September 5, then answered with three straight wins to close out the best-of-five 3-1.
HLE took that first game convincingly. Zeus finished 9/1/4 on Jayce, and his side won the Baron count 3-0 in a 39:15 win. Gumayusi's 42,650 damage on Lucian was the highest of anyone in the game. GEN looked short of answers, with Chovy held to 2/4/2 on Ryze and Kiin to a 25% kill participation on Yorick.
Chovy takes over
Game 2 was the swing point of the series, and it was anything but tidy. It ran 45:38, the two teams traded 61 kills between them, and the gold was almost dead level, with HLE actually finishing a few hundred ahead. GEN still came out on top, helped by an extra Baron and three more towers. Chovy was at the centre of it: 13/4/7 on Locke, the most kills of anyone in the game.
After that, the series tilted firmly one way. Across games 3 and 4, GEN outkilled HLE 50 to 21. Chovy went 17/2 on Akali and Vex in that stretch, while Kiin's 9/1/6 on Varus in the decider gave GEN a second carry threat. The final game lasted just 26:59, the shortest of the series, and ended with GEN holding a gold lead of more than 10,000.
A tough series for Zeus
For HLE, the contrast with the opener is hard to ignore. Zeus died once in game 1 and 18 times over the three games that followed, finishing the decider at 1/5/1 on Nasus with 17% kill participation. Zeka and Gumayusi still put up solid numbers in game 2, but HLE never again found the control they had in that first-game win.
Gen.G now advance with one of their strongest performances of the event behind them, and Chovy's form gives them a clear focal point for what comes next. For Hanwha Life, the question is whether the side that won game 1 so cleanly can show up again in a longer series, rather than the version that struggled through the final three.
